GOVERNOR LYNCH SIGNS PROCLAMATION DECLARING JANUARY "LEARN A SNOW SPORTS MONTH" IN NEW HAMPSHIRE

NORTH WOODSTOCK, NH, JANUARY 2010 - During the month of January, Ski NH and its 36 member resorts will be participating in Learn a Snow Sports Month including free and discounted learn to ski or snowboard packages and a learn to ski or snowboard contest.  The goal of these programs is to introduce potential guests to the sports of skiing, snowboarding, cross country skiing, snowshoeing and snowmobiling.  To highlight the importance of these activities, New Hampshire Governor John Lynch signed a proclamation on December 3, 2009 declaring January "Learn a Snow Sport Month" for the state of New Hampshire.

The proclamation sites important benefits of outdoor winter recreation such as the fact that skiing and snowboarding "are lifelong sports that offer families and friends a great way to exercise, reconnect and create memories".  Other key points included are references to the distinguished winter sports history in New Hampshire, efforts by NH ski areas to offer affordable programs for kids to enjoy snow sports, the economic impact of the ski industry for residents of the state and the fact that skiing is the official state sport.

Among the special offers being featured in New Hampshire during January is "Learn to Ski or Ride Free Week" from now through January 10.  During this week, 15 NH ski areas (12 downhill and 3 cross country) are offering a limited number of free learn to ski or snowboard packages.  These packages include equipment rentals, a beginner lesson and beginner lift ticket or trail pass to those who register in advance.  Participants must visit www.SkiNH.com/LASSM to register and download a Learn to Ski or Ride Free Coupon; they then contact one of the 15 participating areas to make a reservation for a specific day that week.

Saturday January 9 is also "Winter Trails Day" at 10 participating New Hampshire cross country centers.  These areas will be offering first-timers the chance to try cross country skiing or snowshoeing at no cost or a deeply discounted cost.  More information on Winter Trails Day can be found at www.xcSkiNH.com.

In addition to Learn to Ski & Ride Free Week and Winter Trails Day, there will be many other special programs offered during the entire month of January that normally are not available.  Among these offerings, guests will find savings on lift tickets for those who bring a friend to try the sport, special pricing on learn to ski or ride packages, and follow-up rewards for first timers who choose to hit the slopes or trails again.

Ski NH is also offering a special giveaway, with a grand prize of a learn to ski or snowboard getaway with two days of learn-to ski or snowboard lessons for two at Wildcat Mountain and two nights lodging at the Eagle Mt. House in Jackson. The second place prize includes two learn to ski or ride packages at Black Mountain, with two nights lodging at the Eagle Mountain House in Jackson. Runner-up prizes include learn to ski or snowboard packages at Pats Peak and Cranmore.  To register, visit SkiNH.com/LASSM.
