Forecast Discussion

High pressure will build over the region today before sliding offshore overnight as a strong cold front approaches from the west for Wednesday. The cresting high today will allow for generally sunny conditions as warm, moist air makes its way northward over the region. The increased humidity levels will likely bring about patchy and possibly dense fog overnight as dew points are met. Wednesday, the incoming front will spread rain showers and thunderstorms over the region as the day progresses, picking up in intensity during the afternoon and evening hours. Models are in general agreement that thunderstorms will become severe in the afternoon and evening hours with heavy rains, large hail, and violent winds expected. Heavy rains Wednesday may bring about flash flooding in some parts of the state. And downdrafts from strong thunderstorms could suddenly boost winds in a matter of seconds which might down several trees knocking out power or blocking roads among other possible damage.
