THE SNOW WILL COME...
The Snow Will Come... by Jessyca Keeler
The snow will come, and when it does, we'll be ready for it! The same goes for the cold temperatures. Sure, it's been a warm fall, but anyone who has lived in northern New England for any length of time knows that Old Man Winter won't be held at bay by the Heat Miser for long. Bretton Woods opened yesterday, and other ski areas in the state took advantage of the cold temps of the last couple of nights to make snow. Once we get through this short rainy spell, I think we'll be looking forward to some shifts in weather patterns and winter will be upon us before we know it.
Many people - those of us at Ski NH included - consider the Boston Ski & Snowsports Expo the inaugural event to a new ski season. Did you go? Score any great deals? And did you happen to see any of the duck boats that were on tour just before the show kicked off? Ski NH took over one of six boats that traveled around Boston to celebrate the city's record snowfall of last season and to kick off the ski show. Gunny Bear from Gunstock, C-More the Penguin from Cranmore, and Bruce the Moose from Waterville Valley all rode the bus along with staff from New Hampshire ski areas. Even Miss New Hampshire joined in the fun! (Yes, Holly Blanchard - a.k.a. Miss NH - is a skier too.) You can see photos at the Ski NH Facebook page.
While many NH ski area staff were having fun on the duck boats, Kim and I were busy with our annual Boston media reception. We were happy to share all the cool stuff that Ski NH has going on this year with a host of media folks, and to welcome our ski area members to get up and talk about all the new and exciting things they have going on as well. Thanks to WMUR Channel 9 in Manchester for taking the time to come to Boston to cover the reception and the ski show!
Be sure to keep in touch with us, whether it's by checking SkiNH.com regularly, visiting our Facebook and Twitter feeds, or signing up for our newsletter. We've got a lot of great things going on, and you're going to want to know about them!
