Remember the freedom you felt as a kid when you learned how to bike, and the disappointment you felt when you had to put your bike away when it snowed? Fat biking has changed all that!
The large tires provide increased balance and control, enabling you to reconnect with your inner child again, and to confidently and freely explore a variety of snow-covered terrain and trails on a bike.
Many of our cross-country ski areas offer fat biking options.
Fat biking in the heart of the White Mountains
Enjoy the scenery of the Omni Mount Washington Resort on a fat bike. Whether you have your own or you'd like to rent one of ours, the resort has trails for all abilities. Experience the winter cross-country riding on our Deception Trail System from the Bretton Woods Nordic Center!
While your conventional mountain bike tire is about 2 inches across, fat bikes have tires up to 5 inches across making them capable of floating across snow. Fat biking offers an alternative method of outdoor exercise during the colder months of the year when conditions aren't perfect for traditional winter activities. Fat bikes can fill in the gaps on your itinerary and help keep you in shape all winter long! Advanced reservations are required. Trail passes and rental equipment must be purchased a minimum of 48 hours in advance.More >
Fatbiking at Great Glen Trails
Fatbikes are softer and the wide tires make it possible to ride on the surface of the snow. Fatbikes are allowed on our trail system as long as the snow surface conditions will allow for safe, non-impactive biking. It is not permitted to fatbike if the snow is too soft if the bike leaves a rut or if you are having trouble keeping the bike in a straight line. Always best to call ahead if you are in doubt.
Want to give it a go? Rentals are available in adult (26′ wheels) and junior (24′ wheels). Comes with rental helmet. A trail pass is required and offered at a discounted rate.More >
Go where you can't with your mountain bike. What started as a way for cyclists to ride through the winter, now is a fun, year-round activity on terrain that was once un-rideable (snow, sand, and mixed-condition trails). The Waterville Valley Nordic Center has several trails designated for daily fat bike use, see trail report for open trails.
NOTE: Full day reservations can be made for fat bike rentals. Please call ahead of time at 603-236-4666.
