Meet the Couple Who Recently Got Engaged at Cannon!

For Mike and Susie, skiing isn’t just a winter sport, it’s been a part of their relationship from the beginning. So when it came time for Mike to propose, there was no question that Cannon Mountain would be the perfect place.

Both are from New Hampshire, and skiing has been part of their lives since they were young. Mike grew up on the slopes of Cannon and was part of the ski area’s race team. It’s also the first place he and Susie ever skied together. Susie grew up skiing at Cranmore, but Cannon quickly became special to her, too.

When asked what they love most about skiing in New Hampshire, Susie said it’s the sense of community. For them, “there’s a strong local community” at Cannon, she said. Mike agreed, adding that he appreciates the history and longevity of the sport in New Hampshire, saying there’s something about the deep roots skiing has here, and especially at Cannon Mountain.

Cannon has been a special place throughout their relationship. They started dating four years ago and skied Cannon in their very first winter together. Susie laughed when she remembered one of their early ski days together. It was snowing hard at the top, one of those “classic Cannon days” where you could barely see in front of you. She remembered saying, “I’m not skiing in this weather,” and she also remembered that it was apparent how good a skier Mike was.

When Mike planned the proposal, he knew Cannon was the place that made sense. The mountain was truly special to the both of them. “Susie thought it was just one last tram ride before the season ended,” he said, wanting it to be a surprise for her.

Cannon Mountain holds countless memories for Mike. It’s where he spends holidays, and it’s where so much of his friends and family are. Susie recalled that he has friends everywhere around the mountain, and his friends even call him “the mayor.” Susie has become a part of that community too.

Cannon will always be more than just a mountain for the two of them. It’s where their shared ski story began and where their next chapter officially started. Congratulations to Mike and Susie!
