Abenaki Ski Area
Small Hill, Big Heart
Abenaki Ski Area is Wolfeboro’s beloved, community-owned hill with lots of heart. Nestled in the heart of the Lakes Region, Abenaki is not just a ski hill—it's a living piece of American ski history. Trails were first cut in 1936, and the rope tow and lodge were up by 1940, making Abenaki one of the oldest small ski areas in America.
Today, it offers 7 trails ranging from green to black, glade skiing, night skiing, a fun terrain park, and one of the fastest rope tows on the East Coast. The hill is run by the Town of Wolfeboro Parks & Recreation Department, with volunteer help and community support keeping the spirit alive.
Because Abenaki is smaller and less crowded than big resorts, visitors enjoy short (or no) lines, consistently good snow conditions, and a cozy, small-town vibe. The base lodge is rustic and welcoming, with space to kick off skis and warm up.
Tickets are also famously affordable — a big win for families, locals, and snow lovers looking for fun without breaking the bank. So, whether you're a seasoned skier or just lacing up your boots for the first time, Abenaki delivers charm, history, and snow — all just minutes from the heart of the Lakes Region.
